Mission Statement
With a commitment to producing original and thoughtful work, and a mission to empower worldwide independent filmmaking by offering development and post-production services, Harvey/Algernon is a growing production company currently operating in Los Angeles.
Our History
Conceived in Cyprus in 2016, Harvey/Algernon Productions is a labor of love by c0-founders and brothers, Peter Ellinas and James Marios Ellinas. Starting from a young age, Peter and James developed a love for the performing arts, and specifically for filmmaking. Together they helped run Rising Star Youth Theater Company, a community performing arts program in Cyprus aimed at teaching theater while presenting professional annual stage productions. Additionally, the brothers made several short films while still in high school. At Rising Star, Peter played an instrumental role in bringing the beloved play, 'Harvey' by Mary Chase, to the Cypriot stage. A few years later, Rising Star produced a stage adaptation of Daniel Keyes' memorable novel, 'Flowers for Algernon', in which James played a pivotal part.

From there, the seeds of what would later become Harvey/Algernon productions began to form roots.

Peter and James continued to work at Rising Star for over ten years before moving to the United States to further pursue their passion for filmmaking.
Originally known as Shumalawa Productions, in 2016 Peter and James adopted a new name for their company to not only   pay homage to their past experiences, but also as a means of reflecting their continuous work within the independent film industry.
Finally, Harvey/Algernon Productions was born.
As a swiftly growing company, Harvey/Algernon produces thoughtful, alternative, and original work, while always placing a keen importance on multi-layered and insightful storytelling.
